Speed @ Mars Bar
By far the most important club night for concious breakbeat music, something was needed to create a divide between the weak and tired Drum & Bass that was still being produced by backward thinking producers and the melodic/progressive and innovative music coming from a number of stables. When it first started it was like walking into a producers/DJs get together, a who's who of the intell scene, a place for likeminded producers to share ideas and techniques. It put a lot of noses out of joint but that was needed, a clear separation from the moody coke/crack fuelled traditional 'Jungle'. A place where there was no attitude on the door and in the door, a comfortable intimate venue where I never saw any trouble or attitude. Anyway, here are some articles and mixes that tribute a great club night.
